South Africa eyes deeper bilateral ties with Nepal: High Commissioner highlights shared history, trade potential, and people-to-people diplomacy South Africa-Nepal Relations: The Tradition of Solidarity and Prospects for Development South Africa's envoy to Nepal, Professor Neil Sukla, emphasized Nepal's strong past support for his nation's fight against apartheid, notably its 25-year status as a member of the UN Special Committee Against Apartheid. His latest visit was aimed at significantly expanding bilateral and multilateral partnerships with mutual democratic ideals. Main points of discussion during the visit included expanding bilateral economic relations, discovering potential sectors like mining, agriculture, tourism, and renewable energy as shared areas of benefits for their people. Both governments also noted efforts to facilitate visa regimes for Nepali nationals and students going to South Africa. In addition to this, an offer was extended by South Africa to exchange its rich experience in national reconciliation and the making of constitutions. Both countries, being members of the Global South, share a commitment to a fairer and more inclusive international order as well as a resolve to strengthen people-to-people links and mark their special connection. Importantly, the High Commissioner paid tribute to the immense role of Mr. Pradeep Kumar Shrestha, who has been South Africa's honorary consul in Nepal for about 23 years. Mr. Shrestha has helped to consolidate bilateral relations, enabled high-level diplomatic interactions, developed key business and people-to-people links, and extended key support to South African nationals in Nepal.
